Weather

This page has links to various weather sources. Since my weather needs span everything from Pacific typhoons, Australian fog, and midwestern dewpoint spreads, I will try and organize this page as it goes along.

US Domestic Weather

GFS 10-day predictive model – Good for checking the forecast more than 4 days out. Click “model guidance”, then GFS above, and NAMER below. I use the 850mb temp mslp precip model, which is good for about a week in the future.

AWC Standard Briefing – Good for a general briefing, I start here.

University of Wisconsin satellite page – Take a look at the Madison satellite, it covers Chicago and is 1km resolution.

CWSU map of Chicago Center – Good graphical view of METAR/TAF info.

ATC Advisories – Select the center and it will show any advisories.

NOTAM database – Enter ICAO ID and get all NOTAMs for the facility.

National Hurricane Center – The source for tropical weather.

GFS-LAMP Real-time Products – One of my favorites, shows realtime model forecasting data for thunderstorms, and airport forecasts. Use to see probabilistic forecast data, most accurate 12-16 hours out.

International Weather

JetPhotos.com Weather Briefing Page – A mirror of the old dispatcher.org site.

Sky Vector online charts
Flt Plan.com – A great (free!) site that allows you to input your aircraft type and route, and it will generate an entire flight plan for you, including leg and frequency data.
